Please Take That Tone With Me

He had just about enough intelligence to open his mouth when he wanted to eat, but certainly no more. ~ P.G. Wodehouse

She fitted into my biggest arm-chair as if it had been built round her by someone who knew they were wearing arm-chairs tight about the hips that season. ~ P.G. Wodehouse

My favorite (*living) actress is Meg Ryan. (*Now you’re wondering… “Living?” Answers: 1. Yes, she’s alive. Shame on you. 2. Irene Dunne, not alive. BONUS ANSWER: You’ve Got Mail, and French Kiss.)

My (current) favorite ABBA song: “Chiquitita.” (Runner up: “Kisses of Fire.” Too bad it starts so slow.)

Confused? Good. That means you’re paying attention.

In a previous post, I promised to tell you more about me, and share more photos.

And then I reviewed a bunch of silly photos of me – including the one above, found in an older post – and I realized: these silly photos aren’t merely me being silly, they are me being me.

I always advise people never to give advice. ~ P.G. Wodehouse

I love reading Wodehouse. He – like Meg Ryan, or ABBA – is a master of tone. Almost always light. And almost always, consuming their work leaves me feeling better.

A reviewer once compared Meg Ryan’s acting with making a soufflé… Or maybe they compared her to champagne. I forget, and dumb old Google couldn’t even help me find it. …so maybe I said it first? Prove me wrong. I dare you!

Either way, what matters is that (we) compared her to something buoyant, airy, and difficult to achieve. Ethereal.

That tone is what I want Campfire Tales to aspire to: Light as air, leaving the reader feeling elevated.

As we grow older and realize more clearly the limitations of human happiness, we come to see that the only real and abiding pleasure in life is to give pleasure to other people. ~ P.G. Wodehouse

So please forgive me for not blogging about tragedies in national parks or the horrific policies of, um, un-named politicians.

To (badly) paraphrase Jessica Rabbit, I’m not drawn that way.

I’m drawn to humor, and to nature. (Humor nature? Is that a thing?)

How about we pull this all together with some lions, tigers, and bears?
