QUINTESSENCE
the fifth and highest element in ancient and medieval philosophy that permeates all nature and is the substance composing the celestial bodies
the essence of a thing in its purest and most concentrated form
Stars
In your multitudes
Scarce to be counted
Filling the darkness
With order and light
You are the sentinels
Silent and sure
Keeping watch in the night

I felt bad leaving out stars from the Earth Day post, as it is sometimes considered the 5th element, so I wanted to make up for that here. Also, “quintessence” is such an awesome word, and really, it could be what this blog is most about. As definition number two above states, “the essence.” This blog is primarily about making connections. Think of constellations. Connecting the dots, and finding (or assigning) meaning, and sharing those stories.
Isn’t the photo great? I love that the light on the trees comes from a campfire. That photo evokes a very early “Wednesday Words on the Wild” post.
I remembered today that my sixth grade teacher took me and a select group of students out into the country to stargaze. Talk about a flashback. So that’s where my recent stars passion came from!
