A friend recently used a phrase I’d never heard, “Swedish Death Cleaning.”
I would share the findings that resulted, but as my research triggered serious computer security system alarms, you might be better off without my help.
Bottom line, it’s another organizational system, this time from the point of view of those who clean up after you are dead: “Please don’t leave a mess.” Start purging now, so there’s less to do after you die.
Fun, right?
Here’s my take:
- We all need motivation to stay organized.
- Guilt is the worst motivation.
- Live as responsibly as possible.
In other words, “Focus on making the world a better place.” If the best you can do is “have less stuff,” so be it; I understand that (and only offer the following as a fellow declutterer).
Along those lines, I have found this site useful in practical terms of what I buy, keep, purge, etc:
And then, just as another possible motivator, a site devoted to the question, “If your house was burning, what would you take with you?”
So much fun!
