The weather forecast for Los Angeles has been promising rain this past week.
“Promising?” Not “predicting?”
Exactly. We’ve endured fires and heat for what seems like forever. Everyone I know is eagerly anticipating Wednesday’s showers.
I set out to write a “rain dance” post, which led me to research the archives for this golden oldie.
Did you click on the post and read it? No?
Bottom line, I promised myself that when I’m mired in the negative details (like I did today after my attempt to help a neighbor resulted badly, something I tried to put out of my mind as I wrote this), I would instead ask myself, “Why?” and look at (or, for) the big picture.
The phrase that resonated as I thought all this through: “Can’t see the forest for the trees.”
My insight is that most often my big picture is seeing both the forest AND the trees. I see all the details and how they connect. I can’t help myself. It’s a blessing and a curse.
That said, I’m glad I helped my neighbor; I wish it turned out better.
Enough explaining. Let’s get to the good part.
